Colourful & Chic Backyard Wedding

My words can’t even begin to describe how amazing Nakita + Tristan’s wedding day was!! Their original plans for a big wedding got changed due to covid, and they decided to have a chill, intimate, very colourful backyard wedding instead. I’ll let Nakita (the bride) explain it to you from her perspective:

“My favourite memory of the day is the ceremony; it was so overwhelming but so perfect. The whole day just flew by so quickly and before I knew it, I was standing next to my parents about to walk down the aisle!! I hadn’t even seen the venue all set up yet. And we were late. I panicked for a minute. But then I was walking down the aisle and every detail was so perfect. The backyard looked even better than I had imagined and our bridal party looks came together so perfectly.

My maid of honour wrote a song for us to walk down the aisle to and it was the most perfect and beautiful song. I got to see the faces of so many loved ones smiling at me. And I got to see Tristan, of course. The very best part was his vows. He is not usually good with articulating his feelings so it really took me by surprise that his vows were so beautiful and personal. And so funny!! That meant so much to me and it was such a beautiful moment. Tristan built the giant pink neon heart. I knew I wanted something big, dramatic, and unique for our ceremony backdrop and he made it happen!

We also wanted to get tattoos instead of wedding rings. We decided to get matching finger tattoos. I have the moon and Tristan has the sun. We think that it represents us because the moon and sun are opposites. But apparently, we aren’t “opposite” enough that one of us was smart enough to make sure we were getting the tattoo on the wedding ring hand. We got our wedding ring tattoos on the wrong hand!! Oops.”

I asked Nakita if she had any advice for brides planning their wedding now, and man, is her advice ever good! You’re going to want to read this:

“Stop trying to picture your dream wedding and start trying to picture your Plan F, all-bets-are-off, this-is-pretty-much-a-disaster wedding. If that were to happen, what elements would still make that day amazing even though it wasn’t exactly what you had in mind? Which parts are most important to you and your partner? Center your day around those elements. The fact is that things will not always go according to plan and it is better to be flexible than to be stressed out and unhappy. It’s better to have a smaller, more low-key wedding where you have time to actually enjoy the day than to have a huge event where you don’t even have time to say hi to all the people you invited! When it is actually your wedding day, you will find that your ‘dream wedding’ is the one where you have the most time to actually enjoy the day with your new spouse.”

Now let’s get to the photos, because they are goooooood!

"Liv is extremely talented and great to work with! She gave us enough direction in our shoots to know what to do but still left tons of room for candid, genuine moments. Nothing beats seeing real smiles and laughter in your photos! She was more than willing to collaborate and go for some sillier ideas, and was always super encouraging. She's an incredibly sweet person and we felt very comfortable to be ourselves around her. Liv's talent is beyond just the technical knowledge, she really has an artist eye for beautiful photos. Her editing style is perfect, not too dark or light but still brings personality with the warm tones she adds. I HIGHLY recommend working with Liv!!"
